In the infinite kindness of the Universe, I was able to go to Washington, DC. I don't know how I get to be so lucky to go to so many places but especially DC. It was a revisiting of a really good time of my life. Tony Meyers picked me up at the airport. That was the start of the good times. Tony and I were roomates. I worked at the Supreme Court and Tony on Capital Hill. One of my favorite memories is when Tony and I would sneak into these lobby group smoozing parties. I remembered some guy talked to me for a good 45 minutes about something that I was totally against, paying for music downloaded from the internet. I hate paying for that shit. I'm sure this will come up on my Bar character review but there's some genuis argument that I'll have to come up with later. One time I got the hispanic worker at one of these lavious, lobby group paid for events to sneak me two beers into my bag. At that time, Tony was the sole benefactor of those but nowadays they'd be gone before we hit the metro.
One of the first things I did was go to the Supreme Court. A big smile came across my face as I looked up at that building. It has transformed quite a bit. Now I know. I know what those guys do. I've talked about it in class and it's amazing. It had a different feel to it as someone who know studies the law and not just a law school hopeful.
On my way up the stairs, a little Philipino bald security officer looks around the metal detector and says "Jay! what are you doing man!" It was Calivin. To rewind Calvin and I used to play ball on the highest court in the land. The basketball court right above the courtroom. We would play and hang out afterwards. Then walk down the street and hang out at this bar where everyone would come off the hill in there suits. I'm sure that bar lead to Capital Hill scandals. Loose lips sink ships is all I'll say. We went to Calivins house for Monday night football where a bunch of Philipino girls did this dance to "step in the name of love" by R. Kelly.
Later that night I met up with Calvin and we drank, and drank, and giggled like school girls. It was so much fun. Calvin is now married to a woman who is perfect for him, not to mention beautiful. I'm way happy for him. Calvin and I picked up right where we left off 4 years later.
The night ended with us scaling up these stairs known as the "exorscists stairs." In the movie the priest gets pushed down these stairs and dies. Yes the are steep and no I can't believe that Calvin talked me into shimming my fat ass along a ledge holding to a wrought iron fence to sit on this arch that was a good 100ft above the ground. No way would I do it sober.
I went to a few National Lawyer's Guild things. They are intersting. It's a bunch of old hippies and protestors with law degrees. It's great.
After coming home from a night out with Calvin the next thing I remember is Tony shoving two pills in my face and a glass of water. Then driving like a mad man to pick up a dolley to move that day. I'd tell you the time frame from when Calvin to when Tony got me up but it's painful. A bunch of lesbian rugby players moved him out of his old place into his new. They were awesome.
Tony and I were always the west side kids that had to fight to be on the East side schools. We wanted education and we'd cut you for it. I'm proad of him. He's got a great wife, great job and still going to school for a masters in public policy. It was good to reconnect with him. I've been bad at keeping in touch. Everyone is busy. That's why my friends are amazing. They are all out making great things happen and yet when we get together, it doesn't matter how much time has passed. It's still good times.....
