Jan
Jan is a 60 something woman in my section. I've gotten to know her over the course of the year. I think she is amazing to be at her age and take on the rigors of higher education, Lord knows its hard for me. I saw her in the library one day with her head down on the desk sleeping. It broke my heart in a way and at the same time proud of her. Proud that she is a fighter. She is giving it her all without excuses. I admire her for it. She has a son my same age. She is probably my favorite person in law school. Yesterday she handed me a package and said I wanted to give you this on Wednesday but I didn't see you. I told her even if was a box of air I would love it. I walked to the car with a group of students and wanted to tell them "look what Jan gave me," but I put it inside my jacket instead. It felt special and different and I didn't want my lawschool "friends" to know. Whenever someone goes through the effort of giving me a gift it means a lot to me, regardless of what it is. On the note it said that she hoped I had a good holiday and she was glad that she went to school with such a good person as me. It was exactly what I needed in that moment. Needless to say it was an amazing act of kindness and it made my day.
